Updates from Trinity
August 2023
Last I attended school was Fall 2021 at Camosun, while I lived in Victoria. I took time off for Winter 2022, Fall 2022, and Winter 2023. I am returning to school come September, back to North Island College, as I am living in the Comox Valley. I am really looking forward to resuming my education, and I feel much more ready which I am so relieved to say! I will be pursuing an Associate of Arts - somewhere to direct my efforts in obtaining credits, a bit of a guideline to follow, and an achievement on paper after I finish my program. It will also be very helpful and transferrable for filling mostly elective credits when I choose a degree down the road. This semester I will be taking more Criminology and Psychology, as well as Math. I am registered and in for three courses, and waitlisted for one, so my schedule should have four courses total for the fall semester.
As for what I've been up to - a lot, but at the same time not much!
After deciding to take a break from school, I worked and travelled a lot in 2022. In January, I went to Puerto Vallarta to escape the dreary winter weather. I was working at the Sidney Airport Fed Ex depot at the time. I didn't mind the job. I spent many cold early mornings sorting packages - something I definitely didn't love to do. In the spring, I got a job at Prima Strada on Cook St, "People's Choice" voted best pizza in Victoria for the last decade. I really enjoyed my time there, and was offered a management opportunity. I eventually decided to pass up that offer as I wanted to leave Victoria because the lifestyle wasn't for me. In July, my boyfriend and I drove to Baja Mexico. What an adventure! We only drove one way as we were transporting a vehicle, but it was super fun! At the end of July, we moved to the Comox Valley to live with family until we managed to find our own place. Since October, we have been renting a place in Cumberland. It is so lovely and homey here, and I really enjoy the lifestyle. It's nice to be close to home, too. Since being in the valley I've worked at the Kingfisher Resort restaurant, served at Mt Washington during ski season, and I am now serving at a pizza joint in Cumberland and landscaping just until the end of August. Once September rolls around, I will continue to work a couple days per week at the pizza place, but will mostly be focused on school. We are looking to find a new rental with a garage soon. Since taking time off I've had more time to find hobbies, and I found my love for motorsport, specifically cars. We are looking for a new place with space to work on our vehicles. With the snow and cold weather in the winter here, it's not so enjoyable to be working on cars outside!
This ending seems a bit abrupt - but that's about all I can think of. I've really enjoyed taking time off and living life outside of school for a bit to find myself, my interests and passions, and how I want to move forward with pursuing my education. I am so excited to be returning to school, and want to express my sincere gratitude to the Foundation for allowing me to take this much needed extended break. I want to touch on one thing that was discussed at the celebration - I would really love to be more involved with the Foundation, whatever it may be. One thing I was thinking was that would love to go talk to the kids at USS as a past recipient and push more kids to apply for the funds. Please let me know what is needed or wanted by the board for more involvement from recipients!
