Update from Tristian
August 2023
I hope this letter finds everyone in good health and high spirits. I am writing to provide an update on my academic progress and achievements for this year since receiving the Pacific Rim Foundation scholarship. I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient of this esteemed scholarship, and I am grateful for the opportunities it has provided me. I have completed 2 years of my degree program in film + screen arts at Emily Carr University now. I am thrilled to share that my educational journey has been both rewarding and challenging. I have maintained a strong academic standing and demonstrated a commitment to my studies and peers. I have also been actively participating and volunteering my time on film sets, both on and off campus. The journey has been an inspiring experience, highlights on set include not only the smiles,
and the laughs, but also watching people’s creative vision turn into a reality with film. These experiences have not only allowed me to make a positive impact but have also helped me develop important skills such as leadership, teamwork, and fostering a deeper connection with the art-form. I feel like I’m really starting to connect to my major and the people surrounding me in it for the first time since starting my program.
I’ve had my fair share of challenges along the way, some of which includes many weeks of very late nights on set(s) helping my peers (and in one case very late turned into very early morning!), the completion of a 3rd year level course which turned out to be considerably more challenging than expected on top of the full course load, managing a film crew on a full day of shooting in multiple locations, and completing academic
workloads.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the financial support provided by the foundation. It has significantly alleviated the burden of program costs and allowed me to focus on my studies, and personal growth. I am sincerely grateful for it changing my life. Once again, thank you for your continued support and investment in my education. I look forward to updating everyone on my progress in the future.
